Yesterday, Ernie and Mikey, dressed in their festive best, paid a very special visit to the residents at our Danygraig Care Home in Porthcawl. Who knew that two plucky alpacas and our residents would enjoy each other’s company quite so much?
There were plenty of cuddles and lots of laughter as our new friends toured the home. It was heart-warming to see residents engaging so enthusiastically with our visitors, with some even helping to feed them. Although many of our residents are living with dementia, they were able to respond emotionally to the alpacas, sharing smiles, laughter and moments of connection.
Ernie and Mikey were extremely well trained, gentle and brilliantly supervised throughout their visit. Our staff were on hand at all times to support residents and ensure good hygiene practices.
Although we were sad to see Ernie and Mikey leave after an hour or so of fuss and fun, nature called and they made a hasty exit to the grounds outside! We’re already looking forward to welcoming them back again soon.
