The Mountains Nursing Home offers peaceful accommodation for residents aged 60 years and over.  Our rooms are all ensuite, many with views over Pen-y-fan, the highest peak in the Brecon Beacons. Our bright, airy living spaces present a cheery welcome where residents and guests are free to enjoy our beautiful garden space year-round.

The Mountains is a nursing home offering the highest standards of care for elderly residents with Alzheimers, dementia or mental illness. The home is set in a relaxed environment, in the idyllic location of Brecon in Powys. There are large comfortable lounges and dining areas. The home has a distinctive ‘family’ atmosphere and is bustling with visitors and activities.

Visiting

 This service operates an open door policy, allowing family and friends to visit at any time outside of the designated meal times. Social interaction with loved ones is encouraged and recognised as important for resident's wellbeing.

          Mandy Lanceley

Operations Manager

South West Wales

Mandy started her career as a Nurse for the NHS in 1999 and worked her way up to Senior Sister. She left the NHS after 16 years and started her journey in the care home sector as she felt she could give more back and have a positive impact on residents lives. She commenced her first role as a Clinical Lead within a dementia nursing home and within 2 years worked her way up to the position of Manager.​

 

Mandy has remained within the care home setting for the last 8 years and previously worked in a management position in Bournemouth where she was a registered manager for an 80 bed nursing home. Along with her Nursing degree she has qualifications in Level 5 Management, Level 4 Advice and Guidance and Level 3 Diplomas in Dementia and Diabetes.

 

Her passion is people and she thrives on making a difference for the people we care for. Developing teams so they they give more than basic care and that every day they know they are supporting every person as individuals with their wellbeing at the foremost of what they do

Deputy Home Manager

Sue has worked in care since the age of 17 and qualified as a nurse at 39. Originally from Portsmouth, she later moved to Tredegar and began supporting the team at The Mountains before making a permanent move to the home a year ago.

 

As Deputy Manager and Clinical Lead, Sue plays a vital role in supporting residents and staff. She oversees clinical care, guides the team, and ensures that every resident continues to receive compassionate, respectful support no matter how their needs change. Having swapped the sea for the mountains, Sue has embraced her new community with enthusiasm. She is committed to building strong relationships with residents, staff, and families, always maintaining an open-door policy for conversations, phone calls, and support.  Sue is passionate about creating a homely environment where residents feel valued, understood, and cared for with empathy every day.

Taryn joined The Mountains nearly two years ago and brings a wealth of experience as an adult nurse specialising in dementia care. She qualified at the University of South Wales and, having grown up in Nelson, Caerphilly, has always had a passion for supporting older people, particularly those living with Alzheimer’s and dementia – a journey she began at just 18 years old.

 

As Clinical Lead, Taryn focuses on the health and wellbeing of residents, supporting their everyday needs and ensuring person-centred care is delivered with compassion. She also works closely with the management team and supports fellow nurses to provide the very best standards of care.

 

Taryn enjoys being part of The Mountains, valuing both the supportive team and the warm, welcoming environment. For her, the setting of the home and the sense of community make it a special place to work.
